Chad Krueger, Toni McLaurin Join AAOS Board

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons‘ (AAOS) Board of Directors gained two new members during last week’s annual meeting.

Chad A. Krueger, M.D., FAAOS, and Toni M. McLaurin, M.D., FAAOS, officially assumed their new member-at-large roles at the Chicago-based event.
 
Through his military service and subsequent practice, Krueger has become an emerging leader in hip and knee replacement surgery and health policy. His unique background complements AAOS’ new leadership for 2022-23.
 
Demonstrating his commitment to patient advocacy and his field, Krueger has served on multiple committees and boards at state, regional, and national levels. He has served on the executive committee of the Political Action Committee of the AAOS and as a member of the AAOS Communications Cabinet. Most recently, he served as a member of the AAOS Membership Council and Adult Reconstruction Hip Program Committee. Krueger recently completed a Health Policy Fellowship with the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the American Orthopaedic Association’s Emerging Leader Program. He is the associate editor of The Journal of Arthroplasty and former deputy editor of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.
 
During his nine years as a U.S. Army Officer, Krueger refined his surgical skills. He served at four military hospitals in the United States and Kuwait and completed a research fellowship at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research at Fort Sam in Houston. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for his service. 
 
Krueger is currently an associate with the Rothman Orthopaedics, and assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He earned his medical degree from the University of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine and Bachelor of Science in exercise and sports sciences from the University of Delaware. He completed his fellowship in hip and knee replacement surgery at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute.
 
McLaurin is currently a professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for NYU Langone Orthopedics. She also serves as associate director of orthopedic surgery and chief of orthopedic service at Bellevue Hospital Center.
 
Specializing in orthopedic trauma, McLaurin’s interests include musculoskeletal infections and reconstructive orthopedic trauma, especially post-traumatic deformity correction. Throughout her surgical career, she has transformed life-altering injuries back into functioning limbs.
 
McLaurin takes pride in teaching reconstructive treatment procedures to orthopedic residents with a focus on the management of both acute and reconstructive trauma. She has been involved in resident education for her entire career, receiving multiple Teacher of the Year awards at both NYU Langone and Emory University, where she was previously faculty. She works with medical students, pre-medical students, and even high school students through pipeline activities to mentor and encourage interest in orthopedics and STEM. 
 
McLaurin is an active member of numerous orthopedic professional societies, including the J Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society, AO Trauma North America, and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, where she is a member of the Diversity Task Force and Membership Committee. McLaurin previously served as a member-at-large on the AAOS Diversity Advisory Board.
 
A native of Ann Arbor, Mich., McLaurin attended Harvard University and graduated with a degree in biochemical sciences. After teaching high school for two years, she then matriculated to the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. She completed her residency at Michigan State University and an orthopedic trauma fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine.
